Located in the heart of a lava field in Grindavik, Iceland, the Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa that has become one of the country’s most popular attractions. It’s easy to see why: the striking, milky-blue water, the steam rising from the pools, and the surrounding landscape of lava rocks and moss create an otherworldly atmosphere that’s hard to forget.

In my view, the Blue Lagoon is more than just a pretty face. There is so much more to this place. Do you know the water here is rich in minerals like silica and sulfur, which are said to have healing properties for the skin. Many people visit the Blue Lagoon specifically to bathe in the water and take advantage of these purported benefits. They even have a line of skincare products made with the lagoon’s mineral-rich water.

Where to book the Activity:
Blue Lagoon have a few different options for experiencing the spa. There’s the basic admission ticket, which gets you access to the pools and the sauna. Then there are various packages that offer different perks, like a private changing room, a massage, or a meal at the on-site restaurant. This experience was gifted to me. You can book the tour combo of your choice using my links below;

Tips and Recommendations:
One thing to keep in mind is that the Blue Lagoon is a very popular tourist destination, and it can get quite crowded. If you’re looking for a more peaceful and secluded experience, you may want to consider visiting during the off-season (typically November through March) or during less busy times of day (early morning or late evening).
Another option for avoiding the crowds is to book a stay at the Blue Lagoon’s luxurious hotel, which has its own private access to the spa. You can soak in the pools as often as they like during their stay, and can even enjoy a private swim after hours.

Overall, the Blue Lagoon is a unique and memorable destination that’s well worth a visit if you’re traveling to Iceland. Whether you’re looking to relax and rejuvenate, or simply enjoy the surreal beauty of the landscape, the Blue Lagoon has something for everyone.
We were picked up by our tour operator from Reykjavik on a mini van. All the tours were cancelled for the day due to extreme weather except for Blue Lagoon. It was an hour drive from the Airbnb we stayed in. We were dropped right infront of the Blue Lagoon and our check in process was rather smooth.

My Experience of visiting Blue Lagoon:

I stepped into this beautiful warm, milky blue water of the Blue Lagoon, I couldn’t have imagined what was about to happen. I had always heard of Iceland’s unpredictable weather, but I had never experienced it firsthand. As I settled into the soothing waters of the lagoon, suddenly, the first few snowflakes began to fall gently on my face. It was a beautiful sight, but soon, the snowfall began to intensify, and It was not your average snowfall. It was as if the sky had opened up and was pouring snow onto us. The snowflakes were huge and fluffy, and they swirled around us, making it difficult to see beyond a few feet. I felt lucky to witness this intense snowfall while soaking in the warm waters of the lagoon.
Despite the heavy snowfall, I stayed in the lagoon, mesmerized by the beauty of the snow and the contrast it created against the milky blue water. Infact, I stayed for almost 3 hours. The steam rising from the water made the snowflakes look like they were dancing in the air, creating an almost magical atmosphere. There was something magical about being surrounded by the warmth of the water while being enveloped by the freezing snowfall. It was as if the contrasting elements had come together to create a perfect moment of harmony and beauty.
The heavy snowfall continued for a while longer before it began to ease off. I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the unique experience I had just had. It was a reminder of how nature can surprise and delight us in unexpected ways, and how important it is to take the time to appreciate these moments of natural wonder.
You can head to the shower area to get fresh once you are fully done enjoying the blue lagoon. If you wish, you can also head for some refreshments before you leave.
